Education

Since its inception in 1988, Strawdog Theatre has been a staple of Chicago's off-loop theatre scene. This year, Strawdog Theatre Company introduces its new education and outreach program which includes:

  • theater workshops and arts/curriculum based integrated workshops for high school students
  • post-show discussions for our audiences
  • a comprehensive internship program, providing hands-on professional experience for college seniors and graduates
  • a pilot Student Subscription Program for Chicago Public High School Teachers and their students

Strawdog Theatre offers programs to the Chicago community for both students and adults.

Workshops

Any educator may request classroom visits by Strawdog Ensemble artists or special on-site workshops for students. While classroom visits are possible, we highly encourage all workshops to be held at Strawdog in order for participants to fully take advantage of our intimate space and resources. Workshops can be standard (ie: Ensemble Technique and Performance, Acting, Scene Study, Directing, Designing for a black box) or custom-made based on your need. Workshops can be scheduled any day of the week based on availability. We recommend that no more than 25 participants per workshop.

These requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and granted as schedule and resources allow. For more information about scheduling and pricing, please contact Abigail Boucher, Outreach Manager.

Post-Show Discussion

Post-show discussions are available based upon request and availability.

Internships

See the get involved page for more details.

Strawdog's Student Subscription Pilot Program

At this time, Chicago Public High School Teachers are eligible to participate in the Strawdog's Student Subscription pilot program. In its pilot year, the Strawdog Student Subscription Series is a year-long partnership between Strawdog Theatre Company and Chicago Public High School Teachers and their students. The goal of this program is to provide Chicago Public High Schools with the opportunity to study, participate in, and see live theatre in an intimate setting. The year-long partnership allows students to have a consistent experience of theatre, thus developing a greater understanding of the art, as well as strong critical thinking and analytical skills. Slots are still available for participation in the program for Season 19. For more information, please contact Abigail Boucher, Outreach Manager.
